2023 Lexus RX 450h+ brings plug-in hybrid performance to new RX

The 2023 Lexus RX is a brand-new generation of one of the world's most popular sport utility vehicles. The luxurious RX was completely redesigned and features new powertrains, new technology, a sporty exterior design and a very luxurious interior but the model that we will focus on here is the all-new 2023 Lexus RX 450h+, the new plug-in hybrid version of the RX lineup and first ever PHEV model for the Lexus RX SUV.

There are four new engines offered in the 2023 Lexus RX model lineup, but the RX 450h+ powertrain is possibly the one that will garner the most attention. This impressive powertrain features a combination of a 2.5-litre four-cylinder Atkinson cycle gas engine and a powerful electric motor which powers the rear wheels. The total output is rated at 302 hp, making it more powerful than the RX 350h model.

Performance meets efficiency in the 2023 Lexus RX 450h+ PHEV

Although it isn't as powerful as the RX 500h which offers 366 hp, the impressive engine layout of the RX 450h+ model means accelerations are nearly just as quick. The larger electric motor which delivers more low-end torque is responsible.

Although Lexus hasn't confirmed the fuel economy ratings, we expect the new PHEV Lexus RX to feature an average fuel consumption rating of around 6.5 L per 100 km. And as for the range, we expect it to be very similar to the 62 km that we find in the Lexus NX 450h+.

The 2023 Lexus RX 450h+ will therefore give owners the ability to drive around 60 km without using a single drop of fuel when the battery is fully charged. This battery will charge in under three hours on a level II charger and under a day on a level I charger. That means it every morning, you can head out of the house with your Lexus RX plug-in hybrid and go to work and back without needing fuel. Or, if you have to drive more than 60 km every day, you will still save considerably on your fuel consumption bill by having the RX do part of the journey on electric power alone.
