These Three Technologies Make Lexus Vehicles More Fuel Efficient
May 09 2022,
Lexus vehicles are equipped with a host of technologies that improve their fuel economy. Amongst those, three of them stand out.
The wide range of hybrid models
Lexus is the premium brand that offers hybrid vehicles in the most market segments in Canada, since many of its vehicles are available with a powertrain that combines electric and gasoline power. For example, the UXh is a subcompact SUV, the NXh is a compact SUV and the RXh is a midsize SUV (and the first ever premium model to receive a hybrid powertrain, over 15 years ago). If you prefer sedans, the ESh is available in the midsize segment and the LSh occupies the full-size luxury market. Even the most luxurious and most prestigious car in the lineup, the LC, is offered with a hybrid powertrain.
New for 2022: A plug-in hybrid
In order to provide a longer electric range and an even lower fuel consumption, Lexus introduced its first plug-in hybrid system in the new NX 450h+ for 2022. A plug-in hybrid differs from a traditional hybrid by its larger battery and the ability to charge it overnight. This means that the NX 450h+ is capable of driving up to 60 kilometers without using its gasoline engine, thus providing many drivers with entirely electric commutes.
The Eco mode
Even Lexus models that aren’t hybrids are equipped with technologies that help them be more fuel efficient, such as the Eco mode. This driving mode can be selected at any time in order to optimise the engine, transmission and accelerator pedal to achieve the lowest fuel consumption possible. By making the transmission shift early and dialing down the accelerator’s sensitivity, this mode favors a smoother driving style which includes less harsh accelerations and a greater use of the engine’s torque instead of its horsepower, which leads to a higher efficiency.
