Three things that stand out about the new 2023 Lexus RX
July 13 2022,
The Lexus RX is definitely one of the most important vehicles in the Lexus lineup and quite possibly the most important. It was certainly an important model for the automotive industry as it was the pioneer of luxury SUVs when it arrived on the market nearly 30 years ago. Since then, the Lexus RX has continued to redefine the segment, most recently by introducing a hybrid powertrain before its competition. In May, Lexus introduced the latest generation of the Lexus RX that promises to deliver even more refinement and advanced technology while also further enhancing its hybrid powertrain lineup. Here are three things that stand out about the all-new 2023 Lexus RX.
The design
The design of a vehicle is a very subjective thing and we are not ones to tell you which vehicles look good and which vehicles don't. That said, it is difficult to argue that the Lexus RX doesn't have a sporty design, especially in the brand-new Lexus RX500h trim. Large 21-inch wheels are available on the RX for the first time and the overall design is quite a bit sleeker and sportier than the previous generation. There are new colour options and a brand new GA-K platform with a lower centre of gravity and an optimal weight distribution, according to Lexus. The new generation of the Lexus RX is also 90 kg lighter than the previous model which Lexus says translates into improved comfort and a quieter interior.
The hybrid engine lineup
The 2023 Lexus RX will be offered with a standard 2.4 L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 275 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. That said, it will also be offered in two confirmed hybrid versions as well as an expected plug-in hybrid model. The Lexus RX 350h will feature a 2.5 L hybrid powertrain with 246 horsepower and 233 pound-feet of torque. This engine promises to not just be quick, but also efficient with an average fuel consumption rating of 7.1 L per 100 km.
The new Lexus RX 500h F Sport Performance is even more impressive. It pairs the 2.4 litre turbocharged engine of the entry-level RX 350 with an electric motor for a total output of 367 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. That is enough to power the 500h to 100 km/h in 6.1 seconds with an average fuel consumption rating of just 9 L per 100 km. This is one of the most powerful Lexus vehicles ever built, and certainly the most powerful Lexus RX ever.
Last but not least, Lexus plans to eventually offer a plug-in hybrid powertrain in the RX. Details haven’t been confirmed yet, but we expect the same system found in the NX 450h+ with nearly 60 kilometres of range.
The advanced technology
The new Lexus RX will feature a lot of new technology, namely the advanced Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 suite of active safety technologies, a new 14-inch centre display, a new infotainment system with advanced voice commands, and a range of comfort and mechanical enhancements as well.
